Rockingham Sold to FastTrack Owner Andy Hillenburg
ROCKINGHAM, N.C. – October 2 - Andy Hillenburg was the successful bidder in today’s auction of North Carolina Motor Speedway, home to NASCAR races from 1965 until the final race in February, 2004.

Once home to some of the most exciting racing seen, the track also was known at times as “Rainingham” or “Wreckingham” depending on the particular weekend. Cursed with lousy scheduling in chilly February or late October, the track rarely was a sellout, a fact seized upon by NASCAR to shut out the track when scheduling for 2005 came around. Once a proud landmark in the North Carolina Sandhills region, the track has been basically unused since that sad final race.

Now, Hillenburg, longtime racer and now teacher of other racers, plans to move his driving school there and to bring in other races, possibly Craftsman Truck Series races, ARCA and others. There are also plans to include Legends races and to continue the tradition of road races on the infield road course.

Plans for the relocation of the FastTrack school are not finalized.
