VENTURA, CA-RIS- Scotty Weir took his third win of the season in the USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series as he moved from fourth to to first in the final sixth laps.

Damion Gardner lead the first 14 laps of the 30 lap feature race which he started on the pole. Weir started seventh and worked his way up slowly as Gardner and Mike Spencer fought over the lead which he took on lap 15. Spencer quickly opened a sizable lead while Rip Williams and Rickie Gaunt fought to pass Gardner. On lap 20 Williams took second while Weir had caught and passed Gaunt.

The race up until this point had been run without caution but that ended on lap 25 when Garrett Hansen and Tony Jones got together in turn two and stopped. Hansen was out with a bent front axle and Jones was restarted at the rear of the field.

When the race was restarted Weir got around Gardner for third and then went after second place Williams. Two laps later he had second place and he was on Spencer's tail. A lap later he took the lead and on lap 28 Williams passed Spencer to take second place while Spencer finished third. Troy Rutherford finished in fourth and Damion Gardner ended in fifth.

Tony Jones was a disappointing 16th and was reported to have headed over to Garrett Hansen's hauler after the race to express his feelings. The poor finish only further reduces his season driver points lead over Spencer. A month ago, before Tony broke his collar bone his lead was more than 150 points but has now been reduced to just 98.

David Cardey was the fastest of the 40 qualifiers with a 12.325 second lap besting Danny Sheridan who was the second with a 12.665 second lap. The winners of the four heat races were Josh Ford, Cory Kruseman, Dennis Rodriguez and Garrett Hansen. David Cardey won the B feature with Tony Jones finishing second.

Following the CRA race a special invitational race was run called the "Wag's Dash". Sponsored by the Wagstimes club headed by Ken Waggner the race is limited to the drivers judged to be the 'hard luck drivers of the year'. The event has become a tradition for the series and this years running was won by Blake Miller with Brian Camarillo second and Jimmy Crawford in third. The race was cut to 15 laps because of curfew restrictions.

The Lucas Oil USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series continues with a rare Sunday night race the next night at Perris Auto Speedway as a part of the Perris County Fair where race admission is included in the fair ticket.
